South Dakota diary
The following anecdote from diarist John Horter’s mom, Gayle, appeared in the “Little Sprouts” feature in the May/June 1988 issue of Country Woman.
OUR BOYS were born with farming in their blood. We found out how serious it was when John was 3.
He had his tractor and disk all hooked up and was pacing back and forth. “Whatever are you doing?” I asked, mystified.
His response would have done justice to the most veteran farmer—“Mom,” he said with a sigh, “I’m waiting for spring to get here!” —Gayle Horter, Andover, South Dakota
Here’s a photo of John at about that age.
