The Way We Live in New Mexico

Ranching isn’t easy, but doing it in the boot heel of New Mexico has its own unique challenges. Diarist Judy Keeler and her husband, Murray, run two cattle ranches miles from the Mexican border. The couple earns a living at the whims of the cattle market and extreme weather.

The Keelers and their cowboys gather to preg test and vaccinate the cows. Top to bottom row, from left to right: Josie May, Katie Morris and Chloe May, Barbara and Ti Whetten, Judy and Murray Keeler, Shelly and Scott May and Amanda Keeler.

You can read the complete month-long diaries in the February/March 2010 issue of Farm & Ranch Living.
